WASHINGTON — Under Executive Order 14253, a directive to scrub non-English language from National Park Service websites, and numerous immigration policies pertaining to children in the outdoors, the current administration is making public lands more dangerous while attempting to erase Hispanic and Latino histories at national parks such as San Juan National Historic Site (PR), Antietam National Battlefield (MD), Gulf Islands National Seashore (MS & FL), San Antonio Missions National Historical Park (TX), and Salt River Bay National Historical Park and Ecological Preserve (USVI).
On the eve of Cinco de Mayo, speakers at this press conference will connect the current administration’s policies to the imperative to fully and truthfully conserve and interpret Hispanic and Latino heritage at national parks, and provide safe access to public lands this Cinco de Mayo.
