KINGSTON, Tenn. - A group of Tennesseans will bike from Cummins Falls to the Kingston Fossil Plant covering most of the 122-mile route of Enbridge’s Ridgeline Pipeline expansion through eight counties.
Organized by the Sierra Club Tennessee Chapter, the two-day “Ride the Ridgeline” event breaks the ride up into county-by-county legs. Riders will witness the incredible beauty of the Cumberland Ridge and Obed Wild and Scenic River, as well as the devastation that pipeline construction creates in our forests, waterways and communities.
Currently under construction, the pipeline threatens hundreds of waterways in the region to deliver methane gas to the Kingston Gas Plant. In May, nearly 500 Tennessee community members submitted comments opposing the Ridgeline Expansion Project.
In response, Pat Cupples, Sierra Club Tennessee Chapter Director, released the following statement:
“The Ridgeline Pipeline threatens hundreds of waterways and communities across multiple counties. We hope this ride will bring the reality of what is at risk into focus for the riders, and will motivate them to engage with their communities to stand up against Enbridge’s dangerous and unnecessary pipeline expansion.”
