JACKSON, WY — Major League Baseball will no longer consider Grand Teton National Park as a site for a future game, Commissioner Rob Manfred told local leaders in a letter Thursday. The decision follows mass public opposition to the idea of building a ballpark inside the park.

In response to the news, Chris Kassar, director of the Sierra Club’s Wyoming chapter, issued the following statement:

“Grand Teton is off the table for what would have been a disastrous ballpark project, and that is a victory for everyone who spoke up for this National Park. Local leaders made their opposition clear, and we were proud to stand alongside them. As the Trump administration continues to decimate public lands by cutting park staff and making room for private interests, this victory shows what communities can accomplish when they speak up. The administration should take the message seriously and keep corporate spectacles out of our national parks.”
