Trump EPA Extends Emissions Reporting Deadline for Big Polluters

Washington, D.C. - Today, Donald Trump’s Environmental Protection Agency announced it would once again extend the deadline for Big Polluters to report how much greenhouse gases their power plants are emitting. The deadline, originally in March 2026, was pushed back to October for the EPA to finalize its dangerous proposal to end reporting guidelines entirely.

In September, the Trump administration proposed repealing the Endangerment Finding for power plants, and denied that greenhouse gases are a threat to public health, the economy, and the environment. The administration has also rolled back numerous critical safeguards from toxic and deadly pollutants emitted from power plants.

In response, Sierra Club Climate Policy Director Patrick Drupp issued the following statement:

“Big Polluters have tried for decades to evade reporting standards and quietly emit hazardous and life-threatening greenhouse gases into our air and water; now, Donald Trump is giving his buddies a ‘get out of jail free’ card on a silver platter. Not only has he slashed the guardrails in place to protect Americans from preventable illnesses and extreme weather events, now he is keeping us in the dark and allowing fossil fuel companies to get away scot-free. Despite all Donald Trump is doing to protect the industry, the Sierra Club will continue to use every tool at our disposal to hold Big Polluters accountable.”
