PORTLAND — Today, the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) voted to adopt the Advanced Clean Cars II (ACCII) program, setting the state on a path to lower vehicle emissions and a healthy transition to electric vehicles and cleaner air, by requiring that every new light-duty vehicle sold in Oregon to be a zero-emission vehicle (ZEV) by 2035.

Seattle, WA - Today, the Washington State Department of Ecology (Ecology) announced their adoption of three regulations: the Advanced Clean Cars II Rule (ACC II), the Heavy-Duty Omnibus Low NOx Rule, and the Fleet Reporting Requirement. ACC II requires an increasing percentage of new zero-emission (includes battery electric, plug-in hybrid, and fuel cell electric) light-duty passenger vehicles (ZEVs) be made available in Washington State, culminating in 100% new zero-emission sales by model year 2035 and beyond.

New York, NY - Today, as the New York City Council Committee on Environmental Protection held its first hearing on the Zero Emission Vehicles (ZEV) for NYC Act (Intro 279), environmental advocacy groups, clean energy and micromobility industry leaders, and elected officials announced their support for this transformational bill that would require NYC to convert its entire fleet of 30,000+ vehicles to ZEVs. Working on an accelerated timeline that begins in 2025, the bill would mandate the full conversion of all municipal vehicle purchases by July 1, 2035, making NYC the largest municipal fleet in the nation to transition to 100% ZEVs.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Reuters reported yesterday that the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will wait until late next year to finalize standards for heavy-duty trucks that environmental and public health advocates have been pushing to strengthen since they were first proposed in March.

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced that they will nearly double the first round of funding for the Clean School Bus Program to nearly $1 billion, and released a list of awardees that includes school districts in every state in the nation.

Today, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced it is nearly doubling the funding for clean school buses after an overwhelming demand for the pollution-free vehicles. School districts from all 50 states, including in low-income communities, Tribal nations, and territories, applied for the 2022 Clean School Bus rebates. Over 90 percent of applicants requested zero-emission electric school buses.

Today, in the midst of National Drive Electric Week, the Sierra Club, Clean AIRE NC, NC League of Conservation Voters, Southern Alliance for Clean Energy, NC Conservation Network and the NC Justice Center released a report of independent modeling and analysis of the state of North Carolina’s electric vehicle charging infrastructure and the significant benefits of the state transitioning away from fossil fuel vehicles to electric ones.

During the Trump administration, Toyota and other automakers attacked this authority and sided with Trump’s rollback of key climate and clean air protections.

Boston — Today, Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker signed into law ‘An Act driving clean energy and offshore wind.’ The law will expand clean energy development, transportation electrification, and building decarbonization measures to create good-paying jobs and help reach legally binding statewide emissions reduction targets of 50% by 2030.

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Sierra Club and Elders Climate Action (ECA) sued the Postal Service for its failure to produce documents in response to a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request for records related to the Oshkosh contract for the production of up to 165,000 mail delivery vehicles. Sierra Club and ECA seek a court order requiring USPS to release any improperly withheld records without further delay.

Boston, MA - Today, a coalition of 17 states, D.C., and Quebec – working through the Multi-State Zero Emission Vehicle (ZEV) Task Force facilitated by the Northeast States for Coordinated Air Use Management (NESCAUM) – released an action plan to curb pollution from trucks and buses. The action plan makes specific policy recommendations that these signatory states, jurisdictions, and utilities should adopt.
