COLUMBUS, OH-- On Tuesday, May 9, 2023 at 10:00 am ET, the Joint Committee on Agency Rule Review (JCARR) will hold a public hearing regarding the Ohio Oil and Gas Land Management Commission (OGLMC) rule on oil and gas extraction from Ohio public lands. The Sierra Club and community members will testify at the hearing on the lack of public engagement in the decision making process, the dangerous impacts of fracking on public health and the environment and shed light on the true motives of Ohio legislators to utilize a dirty business such as fracking to provide revenue that would allow tax cuts for the wealthy.

Ohio public lands – which include 800,000 acres of state parks, forests, wildlife areas, historical sites, college campuses, and transportation land – belong to all of Ohians. Ohioans own these lands through paying taxes and employ state agencies to manage them. Yet, these state agencies are giving residents very little voice in how the public lands are managed.
