WASHINGTON, DC – Today, seven conservation and community groups filed a court challenge to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission’s (FERC) authorization for Mountain Valley Pipeline, LLC, to construct the MVP Southgate gas pipeline. The petition for review, filed by the Southern Environmental Law Center (SELC), Appalachian Mountain Advocates, and Sierra Club in the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, asks the court to vacate the amended certificate of convenience and public necessity issued by FERC in December 2025.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission released an Environmental Assessment for the methane gas pipeline Southeast Supply Enhancement Project, proposed for Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Alabama. The project is meant to move over 1.5 million dekatherms per day of gas and is the largest expansion of gas infrastructure currently proposed in the Southeast. The assessment claims to analyze the environmental impacts of the SSEP’s multiple sections of pipeline, massive gas compressor station expansions and additional infrastructure modifications.

RICHMOND, VA — Today, the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals granted motions by the federal government and Mountain Valley Pipeline to dismiss environmental groups’ pending legal challenges of recent federal authorizations of the project.

WASHINGTON, DC – The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service issued a new biological opinion and incidental take statement after the Fourth Circuit previously invalidated and suspended the authorizations twice already.
