TRENTON, NJ — New Jersey can avoid up to 362 hospital visits and save drivers nearly $60 billion by transitioning to zero-emission electric cars and light-duty trucks, according to a new report. The New Jersey Advanced Clean Cars II Program report investigated the climate, health, and job benefits if the state were to adopt Advanced Clean Cars II, a program which, by 2035, would require that every new car and light-duty truck sold in New Jersey be zero-emission. The report was prepared by ERM and commissioned by NRDC (Natural Resources Defense Council) and the Sierra Club.

WASHINGTON, DC - Today, the Environmental Protection Agency announced $400 million in grants for the Clean School Bus Program, which offers funding for school districts to replace dirty diesel buses and transition to cleaner school bus fleets. The Clean School Bus program is a part of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act passed in 2021. The program is funded for five years and will distribute over $5 billion to get cleaner school buses on roads.

Annapolis, Maryland — Today, environmental, business, and community groups celebrated as Governor Wes Moore signed the Clean Trucks Act of 2023 (HB 230/SB 224) that passed the General Assembly into law. Sponsored by President Pro Tem Malcolm Augustine and Delegate Sara Love, the legislation requires the Maryland Department of Environment to adopt a regulation known as the Advanced Clean Trucks (ACT) rule by the end of this year.

WASHINGTON, DC - Yesterday, the Department of Energy announced a proposal to update a two-decade-old calculation that determines the equivalent fuel economy of electric vehicles, calling the formula outdated and reducing it by more than 70 percent. The proposed rule is being published in the Federal Register today. The Sierra Club and Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) petitioned the DOE in 2021 to update the calculation, which hasn’t been updated since 2000.
