Cape Cod, Massachusetts -  On Saturday, July 13, a single blade from an offshore turbine in the Vineyard Wind 1 project suffered a failure and produced debris south of the island of Nantucket in Massachusetts. This led to a federally ordered safety shutdown of Vineyard Wind’s operations. Vineyard Wind released a public statement on July 15. As pieces of the blade began washing ashore on Nantucket on Tuesday, the community came together to remove debris from the beach while the company mobilized their cleanup effort.

Baton Rouge, LA  - The Louisiana Public Service Commission (PSC) approved a rate case settlement for Cleco Power that will require the monopoly utility to run two of its fossil units at the Brame Energy Center in Central Louisiana less when it is uneconomic to do so.

Harrisburg, PA — Today, the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania recognized the fundamental right of PennFuture, Clean Air Council, Sierra Club, and Environmental Defense Fund and their members to defend Pennsylvania’s participation in the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI), by overturning the Commonwealth Court’s June 28, 2022 denial of intervention.

BOSTON, MA. – On Wednesday, the Massachusetts House approved House Bill 4876, a climate bill that will create faster permitting for energy infrastructure despite concerns that environmental justice communities will continue to be ignored in state processes. In addition the bill language makes no progress in transitioning Massachusetts off of an expensive and dangerous reliance on methane gas.

WASHINGTON, DC – Just weeks after a court challenge to new coal ash safeguards joined in part by the operators of the General James M. Gavin Power Plant in southeastern Ohio was thrown out, about one million gallons of coal ash wastewater spilled from Minnesota Power's Boswell Energy Center, with some reaching a reservoir of the Mississippi River. The spill was discovered Tuesday.

DULUTH, MN -- About one million gallons of coal ash wastewater spilled from Minnesota Power's Boswell Energy Center, the largest coal plant in Minnesota, with some reaching Blackwater Lake, a reservoir of the Mississippi River. The spill, discovered on Tuesday morning, prompted the company to contain the leak and notify environmental authorities, who are still investigating the extent of the contamination. Coal ash contains harmful pollutants, raising concerns about potential impacts on water and wildlife in the area.
