As the package heads to the Senate, a group of climate, building decarbonization and affordable housing advocates issued the following joint statement:

AUSTIN, TEXAS -- The February winter storm Uri killed hundreds of Texans. Now, state regulators at the Public Utility Commission (PUC) are following Governor Abbott and allowing the same fossil fuel companies and utilities that caused our suffering to determine the solutions for “fixing” the electric grid. State leaders must listen to everyday Texans and actually fix the electric grid - not to add more of the same old dirty fossil fuels that already left Texans in the cold.

Today, the Biden administration kicked off the formal review process of a plan to fully restore environmental protections to Tongass National Forest in Alaska, reversing a Trump-era attack on the Tongass that would have put Alaska’s last vestiges of old-growth forest at risk of destructive logging and road-building. Biden’s plan will also extend new safeguards for the forest as well as dedicating $25 million in federal spending on local sustainable development in Alaska.

WASHINGTON, DC – Yesterday, Interior Secretary Deb Haaland and Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to strengthen coordination between their two agencies in order to increase access to national parks and improve options to get there in a pollution-free ride, including the electrification of public transit fleets, electric vehicle charging stations, and shared bikes and scooters.
