Today, Wisconsin’s largest utility, WEC Energy Group, announced intentions to transition to coal-free electricity generation by 2035, though did not announce specific plans for either the Elm Road or Weston coal fired power plants. The move is in line with previously announced goals to reduce carbon emissions, but advocates reiterated that shifting to other fossil fuel resources would continue to raise serious climate concerns.

NEW YORK CITY, NY – Yesterday, Vice President Kamala Harris and Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm announced a nearly $200 million investment to slash emissions from cars and trucks and invest in electric vehicle charging infrastructure.
Today, the Environmental Protection Agency released critical new draft rules to curb methane emissions and other pollution from the oil and gas industry. Methane is a greenhouse gas that is more than 80 times more powerful than carbon dioxide over a 20-year period. Methane emissions are also emitted alongside other harmful pollution that puts communities at risk of serious negative health effects.
WASHINGTON, DC -- Yesterday, the United States and the European Union announced a groundbreaking trade agreement to crack down on the outsourcing of steel and aluminum manufacturing to countries where production causes far more climate pollution. Under the deal, the U.S.
President Biden and House Democrats have unveiled the framework for the Build Back Better Act, including the biggest investments in climate initiatives in American history. The package includes $27 billion to restore forests, fight wildfires, and sequester carbon through nationwide tree-planting and critical Old-Growth protection programs, among other major green space investments.

Washington, DC -- The United States Supreme Court agreed today to review a lower court’s decision striking down the Trump Administration’s so-called Affordable Clean Energy rule.
Today, the Bureau of Land Management announced a plan to defer a number of leases from upcoming onshore oil and gas lease sales and issue draft environmental assessments for these leases. BLM will solicit feedback on the leases and analyze environmental impacts including national greenhouse gas emissions and the social cost of greenhouse gases.
