Annapolis, MD. - This week, Chairman Kumar Barve (D-17) and Sen. Chris West (R-42) introduced landmark legislation in the Maryland State Senate and  Maryland House of Delegates. The bill responds to the nation-wide decline in coal and the climate crisis by establishing a timeline to phase out coal-burning at Maryland’s six polluting coal plants and supporting impacted workers with a coal community transition plan. This historic legislation would make Maryland a leader in the transition from dirty fossil fuels, like coal, to clean energy.

The EV Freedom Act would create automotive and infrastructure jobs while taking a major and necessary step toward reducing emissions and addressing climate change.

Salt Lake City, UT-- Today, the Trump administration’s Interior Department released final resource management plans for the reduced Bears Ears National Monument and Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument. In 2017, President Trump illegally announced intentions to eliminate 2 million acres of public lands from the national monuments. The action is still being challenged in court.

Today, NorthWestern Energy asked the Montana Public Service Commission (PSC) for pre-approval to buy an additional 25% stake in Colstrip Unit 4 from Puget Sound Energy (PSE), potentially locking its customers into even higher electricity bills to pay for the aging, costly plant for the next 20 years.

Today, the Springfield City Council voted unanimously to adopt a resolution recommending the retirement of the three oldest coal units at City Water, Light & Power’s Dallman coal plant. The resolution supports retiring Units 31 and 32 by December 31, 2020 and Unit 33 by September 15, 2023.
