Austin, TX --  This morning, Sierra Club’s Lone Star Chapter hosted a telepresser to discuss to the recently launched Texas Clean Energy Scorecard, which grades Texas utilities based on their commitment and investments to renewable energy and energy efficiency programs. This new interactive tool is the first of its kind in Texas and allows electricity consumers to learn about electricity production in Texas, how their utilities are performing, and how they can do better.

LAS VEGAS, NV -- The Toiyabe Chapter of the Sierra Club today announced its endorsement of Dina Titus for Nevada’s U.S. Congressional District 1 in the 2020 election.

“I am proud to be endorsed for re-election by the Sierra Club,” said Congresswoman Dina Titus. “I have worked with Sierra Club for years to fight against high level nuclear waste storage at Yucca Mountain and to protect our unique desert habitat. I will continue to stand up to attempts by this administration to further degrade our planet.”

ST. PAUL, MINNESOTA -- Today, environmental groups presented their oral argument asking the Minnesota Court of Appeals to overturn the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission’s (PUC’s) approval of the Nemadji Trail Energy Center (NTEC), a gas power plant proposal in Superior, Wisconsin. Minnesota Center for Environmental Advocacy, Sierra Club, and the Union of Concerned Scientists appealed the PUC’s 3-2 decision approving the gas power plant proposed by Minnesota Power and Dairyland Power.

The collaboratory is a part of a four-month program-- the US Climate Accelerator-- where women leaders work to expand their community successes on climate mitigation and adaptation to a national level.

October 9, 2019, (Lacey, WA)—Today, the Washington Department of Ecology (Ecology) put a permit decision on hold for a massive fracked gas-to-methanol refinery in Kalama, WA, stating the company behind the refinery provided insufficient information about its carbon footprint and environmental impact.

New Orleans, LA -- Today in federal court, counsel for the Sierra Club and the Environmental Defense Fund argued against a State of Texas appeal on the decision by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to declare Bexar County, Texas as nonattainment with the 2015 ozone standard. In addition, the Sierra Club argued to include additional Texas counties (Atascosa, Comal, and Guadalupe) in the nonattainment area.

BOSTON, MA -- Yesterday, Mayor Marty Walsh released the City of Boston’s 2019 Climate Action Plan update, which includes a commitment for all new municipal buildings to achieve a net zero carbon emissions standard. The updated plan maps the course for the city’s emission reductions efforts over the next 5 years in the buildings, transportation, electricity, and waste sectors.

Bureau of Land Management employees could get relocation orders in a matter of weeks according to news broken by The Hill. An email obtained by The Hill from acting BLM director William Pendley shows that the agency’s relocation could be completed in just five months.

ANCHORAGE (AK)—More than a dozen groups sued the Environmental Protection Agency today for failing to protect Alaska fisheries, wildlife, jobs, communities, and ways of life from the proposed Pebble mine.

The lawsuit is one of three charging the EPA with breaking the law when it withdrew a 2014 Proposed Determination setting out protections for Bristol Bay, Alaska. The EPA abandoned protections for the Bristol Bay watershed in late summer. According to news reports, the decision to withdraw protections occurred after President Trump met with Alaska Gov. Mike Dunleavy in June.

DULUTH, MN / SUPERIOR, WI -- The Nemadji Trail Energy Center (NTEC) gas plant proposed for construction in Superior, Wisconsin, will receive public scrutiny in the coming weeks. The $700 million project, put forth by Minnesota Power and Dairyland Power, would commit to decades of burning fossil fuel in the Northland.
