NEW ORLEANS, La. - Today, hundreds of residents, community leaders and local coalitions filled the New Orleans City Council chambers, sending a message to the council to say “no” to Entergy’s $230 million gas power plant. Despite a strong and passionate showing from the at-capacity crowd, the New Orleans City Council voted 6 to 1 to approve the plant for New Orleans. Councilwoman Susan Guidry voted against the plant.

Oak Creek, WI -- The Clean Power Coalition of Southeast Wisconsin held a press conference announcing the results of independent testing that confirmed coal dust samples taken by the Environmental Accountability Group (EAG) and tested by Aspen Consulting, Inc. The black coal dust was found covering homes, cars, and even the playground in neighborhoods north of the Oak Creek and Elm Road Power Plants on Monday.

Today, the Department of the Interior announced plans to speed up efforts to drill in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. The effort would give the area over to the oil industry, ignoring the place’s importance to the Gwich’in Nation, the permanence of drilling damage to one of the country’s last wild places, and the irreversible climate impacts in a state already warming at twice the rate of the rest of the country.
