WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Today, the Sierra Club and the Gulf Restoration Network filed a lawsuit in D.C. Circuit Court challenging the Environmental Protection Agency for failing to consult with wildlife agencies to ensure that its 2018 renewable fuel volume standards do not jeopardize federally listed species. The dramatic land conversion that has occurred as a result of federal mandates to increase corn-based renewable fuels has had adverse impacts on habitat and species, including exacerbating the “Dead Zone” off the Gulf of Mexico.

The Environmental Protection Agency has told employees at the National Exposure Research Lab (NERL) in Las Vegas that they are moving up the closure date for the lab by two years, which is forcing employees to quickly decide between resigning, retiring, or relocating across the country. NERL focuses on monitoring and preventing human exposure to pollution and toxic chemicals. This is just the latest attack from Trump's EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt in favor of a corporate polluter agenda and against the scientists and research that protects Americans from pollution.

Oakland, CA -- The Sierra Club has launched a campaign encouraging people to call on their utilities to reject dirty fuels that may be mined in Grand Staircase Escalante and Bears Ears national monuments. Following Secretary of the Interior Ryan Zinke and Donald Trump illegally shrinking and dismantling these national monuments, corporate polluters can now bid on leases to mine, frack, and drill in these public spaces for dirty fuels.
