San Francisco introduces plan to phase gas out of buildings The Board of Supervisors’ plan ends permits for gas use in new construction starting in 2021 San Francisco, Calif.--Today, Supervisor Rafael Mandelman introduced a city-wide building code that requires newly constructed buildings to run on gas-free power. San Francisco joins more than 30 other cities in California -- second in population only to San Jose -- to begin phasing gas out of buildings.

Washington, DC -- Today, the House Select Committee on the Climate Crisis unveiled its report, “Solving the Climate Crisis: The Congressional Action Plan for a Clean Energy Economy and a Healthy and Just America.” The report sets the goal of limiting warming to 1.5 °C by reaching net-zero emissions no later than 2050, and negative thereafter, and features hundreds of domestic and international recommendations for centering environmental justice and building an equitable green economy.

WASHINGTON, DC -- Today, the Supreme Court struck down Louisiana’s extreme abortion law that would have gutted reproductive health rights in the state. JACKSONVILLE, FL -- Today, the City of Jacksonville Electric Authority (JEA) and Florida Power & Light Company (FPL) have agreed to close the jointly owned Robert W. Scherer Unit 4 of the Scherer coal-fired electric generating station in Juliette, Georgia, just north of Macon, Georgia, on January 1, 2022. The decision was made by a unanimous 5-0 vote by the JEA board following an April announcement by FPL that it would retire its ownership stake.
