JACKSONVILLE, FL -- Today, the City of Jacksonville Electric Authority (JEA) and Florida Power & Light Company (FPL) have agreed to close the jointly owned Robert W. Scherer Unit 4 of the Scherer coal-fired electric generating station in Juliette, Georgia, just north of Macon, Georgia, on January 1, 2022. The decision was made by a unanimous 5-0 vote by the JEA board following an April announcement by FPL that it would retire its ownership stake.

SAN FRANCISCO — The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals today ruled that President Trump’s attempt to circumvent Congress and transfer of $2.5 billion in military pay and pension funds for border wall construction is unlawful. The court also forcefully rejected the administration’s argument that no one can go to court to block the president’s blatant abuse of power. The court affirmed the district court’s order blocking the illegal construction.

Today, in a 7-2 vote, the Colorado Springs Utilities (CSU) Board voted to accelerate the closure timeline for its two coal plants. Martin Drake -- one of the nation’s last urban coal plants -- will now close by 2023 and Ray Nixon will close by 2030. As part of its 2020 Electric Resource Plan (ERP), CSU will replace its 416 megawatts (MW) of coal-fired power with 500MW of new wind energy, 150 MW of solar power, and over 400MW of battery storage in order to ensure modern and reliable energy for Colorado Springs. CSU leadership has promised that no employees will lose their jobs in the utility's energy transition.

SACRAMENTO—The California Air Resources Board (CARB) on Thursday unanimously approved a first-in-the-nation standard that will deliver zero-emission trucks to California. 

The Advanced Clean Trucks (ACT) Rule will help slash diesel emissions, improve air quality and spur the electric truck market. Today CARB continues its legacy of safeguarding public health for all Californians.

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- On June 22, the U.S. Department of the Interior Office of the Inspector General confirmed they were investigating the forceful dispersal of a peaceful protest affirming Black lives matter from Lafayette Square using tear gas and riot tactics to make way for a photo-op for President Donald Trump at historic St. John’s Episcopal church. Then, later in the day, U.S. Park Police again deployed tear gas and physical force against demonstrators protesting in the park.
