WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Today, the U.S. Trade Representative announced that it is moving forward without Canada on a proposed U.S.-Mexico trade agreement announced earlier this week. USTR announced that they will notify Congress of Trump’s intent to sign the new deal later this year, and noted that Canada will still be able to join the deal “if it is willing.” The draft deal reportedly includes weak environmental enforcement terms, fails to make any mention of climate change, and even offers special handouts to oil and gas corporations.

MISSOULA, Mont.— A federal judge today granted a temporary restraining order stopping Wyoming and Idaho’s planned grizzly hunt that was set to start Sept. 1. The order grants the bears a reprieve while the judge decides whether the federal government should reinstate federal protections for the bears.

MISSOULA, Mont.— With the clock ticking down before the states of Wyoming and Idaho allow for trophy hunting of grizzly bears in the Yellowstone region, a Native American tribe and conservation groups filed a request for a temporary restraining order to stop the hunt while a federal judge decides whether the federal government should reinstate federal protections for the bears.

Yesterday, Donald Trump’s acting EPA Administrator and former coal lobbyist Andrew Wheeler announced his plans to direct the Agency to reconsider the life-saving Mercury and Air Toxics Standards (MATS), the commonsense safeguards designed to dramatically curb the emission of mercury, a potent neurotoxin, and other heavy metals and acid gases from coal-fired power plants.Yet, despite the indisputable benefits of protecting the public from toxic pollution, Donald Trump’s Supreme Court nominee, Brett Kavanaugh, has expressed skepticism as to MATS’ value. In his answers to his Senate confirmation questionnaire, Kavanaugh said that he regards his 2014 dissent in White Stallion Energy Ctr., LLC v. EPA -- in which he opined that EPA had adopted the Mercury and Air Toxics Standards in error -- as one of his top 10 most significant opinions.

Pittsburgh, PA -- FirstEnergy Solutions Corp. announced today that the 42-year-old Bruce Mansfield coal-fired power plant would retire by June 1, 2021. The 2,510 megawatt coal-fired power plant, located in Beaver County, is the largest in Pennsylvania and until recently, burned over seven million tons of coal annually.
