In 2025, the Napa Sierra Club Group (NSCG) continued to turn environmental concern into hands-on education, local advocacy, and visible community impact—much of it powered by student leadership.
Student Internship Program
NSCG completed its sixth year of the student volunteer internship program, engaging seven interns. Interns played key roles in:
• Classroom education and the Wetlands Explorers Program, teaching habitat loss and sea-level rise
• Creating a well-received two-minute Wetlands Protection PSA (photo at right)
• Installing signage to raise awareness about Salvador Creek at Vintage
• Staffing outreach booths at events such as Earth Day
• Speaking at local government meetings
• Writing articles for Redwood Chapter newsletters and local newspapers
• Collaborating on projects with Napa Schools for Climate Action (NS4CA)
Communications & Member Mobilization
NSCG published an e-newsletter every other month using the Sierra Club Salesforce/Marketing Cloud platform.
• Dozens of articles written by Executive Committee members and interns
• Articles shared with Redwood Needles and posted on the NSC website
• Regular email action alerts mobilizing members on local ballot measures and policy issues (Photo at right)
Outreach, Education & Funding
• Produced a Wetlands Protection PSA with interns, supported by $5,000 from the Rohloff Foundation
• Donated $10,000 to the American Canyon Community and Parks Foundation, supporting:
- Watershed Explorers program
- The Outdoor Connection program
• Participated as one of several agencies providing hands-on sea-level-rise education at wetlands field programs (Photo at right)
• Received $2,000 from Sierra Club for our work with wetlands education
Events, Advocacy & Leadership
• Hosted a successful Napa Group Outreach Event at Skyline Park
• Designed and launched NSCG T-shirts for fundraising and visibility (see below for ordering details)
• Advocated on land-use and growth issues through direct lobbying and public testimony
Governance & Partnerships
• Conducted candidate interviews and recommended Sierra Club endorsement of Supervisors Joelle Gallagher and Anne Cottrell
• Participated in Napa Earth Day, Vine Trail Locomotion, and donated to the S4CA Creative Arts Contest on Climate Change (Nick became a Vine Trail Board Member, representing NSCG)
What's Ahead?
Building on the momentum of 2025, NSCG enters 2026 focused on deepening its education and outreach programs, expanding student leadership opportunities, and maintaining a strong presence in local land-use and water policy decisions.
Priorities for the coming year include continued wetlands education, strategic advocacy at the local level, and strengthening partnerships that turn community awareness into lasting environmental protection.
With a solid foundation in place, we think that the Group is well positioned to translate engagement into measurable progress. (Photo: Student Intern Kate Bit addresses the AC City Council on the need to preserve the wetlands.)
