Our goal is to empower Cal Poly students to participate in environmental advocacy, leadership development, and civic engagement in San Luis Obispo, and throughout the Central Coast. The SLO Sierra Club Student Committee will serve as a student-led body within the Santa Lucia Chapter of the Sierra Club, to uplift emerging leaders and ensure the perspective of the younger generation is represented in local environmental decision making. The organization will also provide a structured pathway for students to become involved in environmental advocacy by creating workshops to build skills in organizing initiatives, communicating science, and making public comments.
SLO SCSC Goals:
- Environmental Advocacy and Action
Support and amplify the Santa Lucia Chapter's efforts to protect local ecosystems, advance environmental and social justice, promote clean energy, and raise student voices in public processes, including legislation, public comment, and community organizing. - Leadership Development
Provide students with opportunities to develop skills in environmental leadership, advocacy, organizing, communication, and policy engagement through active participation. - Student Representation
Ensure that the values, needs, and perspectives of students are reflected in the Santa Lucia Chapter's Central Coast advocacy efforts, policies, and long-term environmental outcomes. - Santa Lucia Chapter Committee Support and Collaboration
Strengthen the connection to the Santa Lucia Chapter by placing SCSC members as liaisons across Chapter committees, fostering two-way communication and coordinated action. - Community Engagement
Expand Cal Poly student involvement in local environmental initiatives by increasing outreach and participation in Chapter campaigns, events, and volunteer opportunities.
