If you look closely, we have included what it takes to get a great photo at the Capitol. Sometimes you have to climb on a table! Photos by Todd Waterman (the good one) and Pat Cupples (Behind the scenes proof that it takes more than a camera to take a good photo).
Harvey Broome Group Chair Jerry Thornton says it best: "Todd Waterman is one of the more amazing people you will ever meet."
Todd was trained as an artist and became proficient at air-brush painting of shirts and other objects. But we know Todd primarily as an amazing photographer who is often seen at Sierra Club events and public events documenting what goes on. He is a photo editor and text editor for the Tennes-Sierran newsletter, the Tennessee Chapter E-newsletter and the Harvey Broome Group E-newsletter, and he often contributes articles as well. He has served on the HBG ExCom since 2020 and he is also the Co-Chair of the HBG Communications Committee.
Todd believes that climate change profoundly and irreversibly threatens every human, present and future, and, in his own words, “the exquisite, climate-dependent ecosystems on which we all depend.” He believes that “by leveraging the Sierra Club’s unique clout, we can help leave our children, and all children, a verdant, sustainable, and thriving world.”
Todd believes that as individuals and with partner organizations, we’re most powerful when we act together, whether we’re opposing new TVA fossil methane plants and other harmful polluters, saving forests and species, electing lawmakers, or advocating for social and environmental justice.
As an environmental and social activist and Communications Co-Chair, Todd has worked to make it easy and rewarding for Sierra Club members to join with others to influence TVA and other policymakers, to attend rallies, trainings, conferences, and marches near and far, to comment, sign petitions, and inform the public, to lobby locally, in Nashville, and in Washington, and to elect green candidates.

From my perspective as Chapter Director, eager to share all of our incredible work across Tennessee, Todd couldn't be a greater asset. Whether it takes climbing on tables or scaling ladders to get the perfect shot, his photography tells our story. His images don't just document our work - they inspire others to join us in protecting Tennessee's natural beauty.
Thank you, Todd, for being our visual storyteller and for your unwavering dedication to documenting the volunteers, partners, and places that make our movement strong.
