Dear Supporter,

Spring has sprung! The sun is shining, the snow is melting, and our fearless chapter director, Rob Joyce, has returned from parental leave. He’ll be working part-time for the next few months before diving back into the swing of things at Sierra Club Wyoming. Meanwhile, SCWY staff has been hard at work, leveraging the enthusiasm and resistance of our communities to achieve a greener future for us all. Read on to find out how you can plug in.

DEFEND OUR FUTURE: Join us for an Earth Day rally in Laramie! 

Join us this Earth Day in Laramie to Defend Our Future. On April 22nd, we will advocate for public lands, climate action, and a sustainable future for ALL Wyomingites! Click here to RSVP.

We will kick off with a rally at Simpson’s Plaza outside the Union Building at the University of Wyoming, where we will raise our voices for climate and land justice! Together, we will march from campus to the Laramie Railroad Depot downtown. A series of inspiring speakers will share their stories about public lands and climate, while the Sierra Club provides refreshments. Local organizations will be in attendance to offer opportunities for us to learn and act, united in our mission to secure a brighter future.

ICYMI: Sierra Club suing DOGE  

Last month, Sierra Club joined the Union of Concerned Scientists, OCA – Asian Pacific American Advocates, and Japanese American Citizens League, to sue Elon Musk and DOGE over the devastating firing of federal workers. With Donald Trump’s blessing, Elon Musk and the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) have slashed funding, canceled contracts and fired thousands of federal employees, including within the U.S. National Park Service and Forest Service. These severe reductions in funding and staff are having terrible impacts, affecting visitors’ safety, wildlife protection, wildfire prevention, and proper maintenance at all public lands. 

DOGE’s actions harm the American public’s ability to safely enjoy our public lands, which includes the Sierra Club’s millions of members and supporters.

Highlight: SCWY staff attends North American Bison Summit

Wyoming chapter staffers Kaycee Prevedel and Kelsey Yarzab Yates, along with four Laramie-based SCWY volunteers traveled down to Loveland, Colorado last week to join hundreds of activists, advocates and supporters for bison recovery across the continent. Throughout the week, attendees participated in workshops and small group discussions regarding the history of the bison in North America, models for bison tolerance on public lands, and efforts in the present day toward rematriation of bison to tribal nations.
