Help strengthen grizzly protections!

Send a comment to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service asking them to keep grizzly bear protections as strong as possible. While the agency recently announced that it would continue protecting grizzly bears under the Endangered Species Act, USWFS also proposed changes to how this species is managed, which could result in bears being harmed or killed, right as their populations have begun to recover.

Specifically, this proposal seeks to make it easier for federal, state and private land managers to kill grizzly bears they have deemed "problematic." What defines a "problem bear" and which management actions are allowable against them are up in the air. The proposal also seeks to draw boundary lines around bear populations, leaving some unprotected by the Endangered Species Act.

Farewell, Kaycee

After more than four years with Sierra Club Wyoming Chapter, Kaycee Prevedel will begin a new journey with the Wind River Tribal Buffalo Initiative. Here is an excerpt from Kaycee's reflection on her time at Sierra Club.

It's been such a pleasure working for the Sierra Club, Wyoming Chapter. When I started with the Sierra Club in 2021, I came fresh from a forever-seasonal position with the U.S. Forest Service and was passionate about public lands protection and cultural preservation. I found myself at home with the Sierra Club’s values against using public lands for sacrifice zones for fossil fuel extraction, and was impressed with SC’s track record of standing up to dirty industries. Through my work, I met wildlife biologists, experts, and advocates who taught me the importance of carnivore protection and the impressiveness of intact ecosystems. Overall, I have enjoyed working for an organization that is often the most progressive voice in the WY conservation community.

Berkshire Hathaway Shareholder Meeting

This weekend, Sierra Club volunteers, organizers, and community partners headed to Omaha, Nebraska for the Berkshire Hathaway Shareholders meeting. Berkshire owns utilities throughout the U.S.- including Wyoming’s largest utility, Rocky Mountain Power.

We attended the shareholder meeting to hold Berkshire accountable for the fact that they currently operate the dirtiest coal fleet in the nation- and one of our volunteers, local highschool student Kansas Lohmeier, was able to ask a question to future Berkshire CEO Greg Abel in front of over 20,000 shareholders!

We were lucky enough to be joined by elders from the Omaha Tribe in a water ceremony at the Missouri River after the shareholders meeting. Being able to connect to the water was an important way to remember why we continue to show up.
