Sierra Club Seeking Communications Volunteers

The Maryland Chapter of the Sierra Club is seeking candidates to support our communications work.  Eventually, we intend to form a Communications Committee, but to begin with, we’re looking for people who can take on some discrete pieces of work:

  • Assessing and developing our overall communications strategy, including the roles of the Chapter’s newsletter (the Chesapeake), website, social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, etc.), email and postal mailings, and other possibilities.  This work could include assessing how our members prefer to receive various types of information, how we can best meet those preferences in a cost effective way, and how to help ensure our email address list is current.

  • Leadership (including a newsletter editor) for the Chesapeake and related tasks, including layout development and perhaps managing a small advertising function.

  • Developing the website, including refining its structure and its visual and substantive content.

  • Developing content for our social media accounts.

It is envisioned that the leads and/or teams in these areas will work closely with and have support from Chapter staff and other Committees in developing content.

Our ideal candidates would have a background in written and electronic communications, environmental policy and Club activities.  However, strengths in any of these areas could be sufficient if combined with a willingness to learn and contribute to the Maryland’s Chapter’s efforts to inform its members and the wider public.

Please send an email with a note explaining your interest and experience and/or a resume to Communications-committee@mdsierra.org if you are interested.
