We plan regular outings in St. Mary's County Parks: family hikes, invasive plant removal, native plantings, beach and park clean-ups. Check our calendar on this website or on Facebook for up-to-date calendar and inclement weather information.

Southern Maryland Weekly Wander Schedule for 2019 (Wednesday kid-paced hikes)

Some of our favorite locations in St. Mary's County to explore include:

  • Elms Environmental Center in Lexington Park - easy hikes around a couple of miles of wooded, marsh, and beach trails
  • Elms Beach in Lexington Park ($5 park entrance fee per car on weekends during the summer season) - short trail and beach at the mouth of the Patuxent River and the Chesapeake Bay
  • Myrtle Point Park in California, MD ($5 park entrance fee per car on weekends during the summer season) - several miles of marked trail and beach overlooking creek and Patuxent River
  • John G. Lancaster Park in Lexington Park - playground, fields, and a mile plus of paved walking trails
  • Chancellor's Run Park in California, MD - playground, fields, and 2 hidden forested walking trails
  • Dorsey Park in Hollywood, MD - playground, fields, and a short forested walking trail
  • Fifth District Park in Mechanicsville - playground, fields, and a short forested hilly walking trail
  • Chaptico Park in Bushwood - playground, fields, and a beautiful forested walking trail
  • Salem State Forest in California, MD - wide walking, bike, or snowshoe trail
  • St Mary's River State Park in Callaway ($3 park entrance fee) - long wooded trails, 7 mile lake loop, and 1.5 mile mini loop, playground

Myrtle Point Park - Tree Canopy Restoration

Description: Events to assist Frank Allen of the Patuxent Tidewater Land Trust in removing invasive vines that threaten the tree canopy of the park. We will have water and light refreshments for volunteers. (It would help if we knew how many are coming.)

Date/Time: Sat., Apr. 6, 2019, 9am-noon.

Address: 24050 Patuxent Blvd, California, MD 20619. Bear left at fork after entering park for parking area.

Level: Easy

Cost: Free

Bring: Personal tools (clippers, loppers, hand saws, hatchets, etc.), as we won't have many to spare. We recommend gloves, bug spray, and eye protection.

Signup Restrictions: Not appropriate for young children.

Cancellation Policy: Heavy rain cancels.
