Mercedes Macias is a Senior Policy Strategist for Sierra Club California, leading statewide work on water and conservation policy. She previously served as the statewide campaigner for Sierra Club’s Beyond Dirty Fuels campaign, advancing frontline community protections, strengthening methane regulations, and challenging oil and gas permitting in Kern County. Rooted in her upbringing in Kern County and years of Central Valley organizing, Mercedes brings a grounded, community-centered approach to policy. Her background includes labor organizing with SEIU and community engagement with the United Farm Workers Foundation. She is driven by a commitment to environmental justice and to building a future her children can thrive in.
