Setting Policy on Environmental Issues
For Sierra Club in California

The California/Nevada Regional Conservation Committee (CNRCC), also known as the California Conservation Committee, establishes general conservation policy and specific conservation positions for the 13 California Sierra Club chapters and Sierra Club California.  Having one California policy maintains consistency between chapters and provides direction to Sierra Club California advocacy staff and California Legislative Committee, who decide Sierra Club California’s position on legislation.

Inspired by nature, we work together,
To explore, enjoy, and protect our communities and the planet

The Sierra Club Board of Directors establishes conservation policy for the entire Sierra Club.  Chapters take positions that apply to specific situations within their geographic boundaries as long they are consistent with national policy. When California chapters find themselves facing a conservation issue that encompasses more than their chapter, and for which a national policy does not already exist, the conservation policy in California is determined by the CNRCC.

The CNRCC includes conservation issue committees that research and propose the conservation policy and may support the staff in doing advocacy work. Chapter executive committees may also propose conservation policy changes.  The CNRCC also participates in local ballot measure, statewide ballot measure and candidate endorsements and can take positions on statewide lawsuits.

The CNRCC is comprised of 58 volunteer Sierra Club members.  CNRCC work is managed by an 8-member elected steering committee.
