Coastal communities deserve protection from pollution, industrial risk, and climate impacts. California has a long history of opposing new offshore oil development, and public opposition remains strong. Offshore oil drilling threatens the ocean, beaches, wildlife, public health, and coastal jobs that define California. We have seen the damage oil spills can cause. We also know that expanding drilling deepens the climate crisis. Trump is trying hard to destroy California’s Coastal Management Program, push through more offshore drilling projects, and an underwater data center, while others want to expand ocean and sub-sea desalination, underwater cables, unsustainable aquaculture, and faster shipping lane speeds. Others want to increase the use of pesticides and herbicides on land, which travel through watersheds into the oceans, while marine life is still recovering from runoff from the LA fires and dealing with extreme heat in this El Niño season. Clean energy, conservation, and community resilience are better investments than new drilling. California should lead with clean energy, ocean protection, and community resilience. Today, we join hands to show that our coast belongs to the people, not the oil industry.

• Sunscreen, hats, and sunglasses
• Beach-appropriate footwear
• Feel free to make and bring posters about your love of oceans, coasts, or why you oppose offshore drilling
• You are welcome to wear a costume- perhaps a fish, whale, or other sea creature?
• Anything else your local event organizer suggests
