Sierra Club California Statement on Newsom’s Letter to State Water Resources Control Board

On February 18, Governor Newsom submitted a letter to the State Water Board, as they review water rights for the DCP, urging them to consider the DCP to be in the public interest. Sierra Club California’s attorney, Bob Wright, submitted this letter in response.

Statement from Caty Wagner, Sierra Club California’s Water Campaign Manager:

“The Delta Conveyance Project (DCP) is an expensive and environmentally destructive project that is likely to become a stranded asset, and does not decrease our reliance on imported water. The state water board must wait for the final version of the Bay Delta Plan to come out this July, which will establish regulations that could add time, energy, and costs to the DCP permitting process, which will ultimately be paid for by California water users. This is not the time for Governor Newsom to mirror the President’s environmentally destructive water policies, but to stand up to them.”
