It’s Time for 100% Clean Energy School Districts

Schools represent a surprisingly large share of fossil fuel use. But that doesn't have to be the case. By committing to 100% clean energy, schools can become healthy spaces to help create the clean energy future our kids deserve.

Sierra Club’s Climate Parents and Ready for 100 campaigns want to get fossil fuels out of schools and power school buildings with 100% clean, renewable energy. This is important for many reasons: cutting climate pollution, saving districts money, creating STEM learning opportunities, and expanding community resiliency. Solar panels on schools can even make money for districts.

The Woods & Wetlands Group's Clean Energy Team is ready to take action with a new campaign! Are you in?

Community-based volunteers are in a great position to inform school administrators and school board members about the benefits available through the Climate and Equitable Jobs Act (CEJA). For example, CEJA helps school districts pay for solar panels, upgrade heating and air conditioning systems to be more efficient, and transition to electric buses. CEJA also provides free energy audits for schools.

For more information about getting involved in this important campaign, please email Jay Futterman.

Shifting American K-12 schools to 100% clean energy would reduce the same amount of climate pollution as taking 1 in every 7 passenger cars off the road.
