“In every walk with Nature one receives far more than he seeks” (John Muir 1919) The Woods & Wetlands Speaker Series is delighted to announce a Spring ZOOM event. On Sunday April 27, 2025, at 7:00 CDT. The program will focus on John Muir. Mike Wurst, Head of Special Collections and Archivist as well as professor of History of Geological and Environmental Studies at the University of the Pacific will be our host. Famed naturalist and “father of the National Parks,” John Muir reveled in earth’s beauty, studied how the earth worked, and strove to preserve the planet’s most “glorious” places like Yosemite. Throughout his life, he made observations that challenged our understanding of the science of nature and how best to preserve it. In this Speaker Series Program, Mike will use Muir’s personal journals, letters, drawings, and manuscripts curated at the University of the Pacific to illustrate Muir’s masterful observational skills. Founder of the Sierra Club, and our National Parks System, John Muir was born in Scotland, raised in Wisconsin, wandered in the American wildernesses of the west, and promoted the preservation of our wild and scenic lands. Woods & Wetlands invites families and friends to join us at 7:00 pm on Sunday April 27. Click here to receive the ZOOM address. We’ll be looking for you! Please join us on Sunday April 27 at 7:00 pm. You won't be disappointed.
