Autumn Sunday Speaker Series

Sierra Club

We are are looking forward to our Autumn Lineup! Our staff has been hard at work searching and reaching out to schedule interesting and informative programs - to enlighten and entertain you. Here are our fall programs available to access via Zoom.

On Sunday September 13, we will welcome Sergio Vargas of the Illinois Environmental Council.  Sergio will share the work and accomplishments of the IEC toward preserving and protecting our precious wetlands.  We are looking forward to hearing stories and tales from the “Wetlands Front” and the work being accomplished to protect these critical habitats.

Our October 18 program will be enlightening and exciting as we welcome Ingrid Lyons Executive Director  of the Boundary Waters wilderness organization.  Other than the devastating forest fires that have plagued the Boundary Waters and greater Quetico-Superior region, a more sinister nemesis is at play.  Ingrid will explain the epic efforts to prevent the Boundary Waters sulfide-ore copper mining.  We are delighted to welcome Ingrid and the Save the Boundary Waters story.

Our final Sunday Speaker Series will welcome Ken Walczak of Dark Sky International, on Sunday November 15.  Dark Skies International is dedicated to protecting the nighttime environment, eliminating light pollution, and preserving dark, star-filled skies for humans and wildlife. You will be surprised to learn that there are close to 100 certified Dark Sky areas and some in our local communities.  Our sister Sierra Club group in Wisconsin is very active with Dark Skies programs. We are excited to welcome Ken to our Woods & Wetlands community.

Please mark your calendar and register for these Zoom events.
