Green Living

Green living is about making healthier choices for yourself and for the planet, like adopting practices that minimize environmental impact and promote sustainability.

Energy efficient homes and appliances are critical for the future

There’s a lot we can do in our homes and our daily lives to reduce energy consumption, lower waste, and use resources more efficiently, like using energy-efficient appliances.

Here’s how switching to more efficient appliances can help you and the earth:

  • Health Benefits: Energy-efficient appliances produce fewer emissions and harmful pollutants, improving indoor air quality.
  • Financial Benefits: Energy-efficient appliances use less electricity or gas and typically last longer, leading to lower utility bills and less maintenance costs.
  • Environmental Benefits: Energy-efficient appliances reduce greenhouse gas emissions and reduce overall environmental impact by using resources more effectively.

Upgrading to ENERGY STAR® appliances can save households up to 30% on energy costs compared to standard models.

Victory!

In Win for Consumers, DOE Issues Final Efficiency Standard for Stoves
The Department of Energy (DOE) released a final energy efficiency standard for stoves. The new standards will take effect in 2028 and, according to DOE, are projected to save Americans approximately $1.6 billion on their utility bills over 30 years.

What We Are Doing

Sierra Club’s Building Electrification campaign is working to solve some of the nation’s top challenges – lowering air pollution, improving resilience during extreme weather, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and creating millions of family-supporting jobs in the process.

Together with other environmental and social justice groups, cities, and state regulators, Sierra Club is working to lower the energy burden that many people face with high energy costs and help improve the health and safety of our homes.
