About the Song
This beautiful choral piece focuses on John Muir's inspirational writings. The tunes used in this song is a traditional Scottish "Come by the Hills," from the traditional Irish/Gaelic ballad "Buachaill On Eirne." and Robert Burns Scots folk song "Ye Banks and Braes of Bonnie Doon." After a brief musical biography of John Muir, the lyrics are from John Muir's writings.

The recording of this song begins with an a capella biographical introduction for a female chorus, followed by a male soloist singing words taken from John Muir's writings, who is then once again joined by a full chorus. In this recording, the singers are colleagues of the composer, many from a local symphony chorus.

About Libby McQuiston
Libby McQuiston was inspired to compose this song, saying "Since John Muir is my favorite saint, I wanted to stretch myself and honor him. "
She composed the piece for a church performance of music about the Saints painted on the walls of the Saint Gregory of Nyssa Episcopal Church in San Francisco. John Muir is one of the appointed saints celebrated in the church. The St Gregory choir sang it for a concert about the saints and once for Earth Day.
