Amidst Global Biodiversity Framework Negotiations at COP15, Sierra Club Joins Mobilization Efforts in Montreal to Highlight the Threat Enbridge’s Pipelines Pose to Biodiversity 


MONTREAL, CANADA -- While global leaders gather at COP15 in Montreal to create a new 10-year plan to reverse the accelerating loss of life on Earth, Sierra Club and our partners are joining mobilization efforts on the ground in Montreal to call attention to the threat Enbridge’s fossil fuel pipelines pose to biodiversity, climate, and human health. On Saturday, December 10, Sierra Club activists will join 67+ organizations at the March for Biodiversity and Human Rights hosted by the Quebec Civil Society Collective for COP15 to call on international decision makers to take concrete and ambitious action in the face of the biodiversity crisis. On Sunday, December 11, Sierra Club and our partners will host a free teach-in about the fight against Canadian fossil fuel infrastructures in the US and Canada. At the event, experts, activists, and Indigenous organizers will brainstorm ways we can continue to work together on both sides of the colonial border to phase out existing fossil fuel infrastructure. 

WHAT: The March for Biodiversity and Human Rights will include a rally at the Statue du Mont-Royal and march to demonstrate binational support for protecting biodiversity, respecting Indigenous peoples’, and fighting for human rights. The Teach-In: “Fighting Canadian Fossil Fuel Infrastructures in the US and Canada” is a free educational event that will feature Indigenous organizers, experts, and activists from the US and Canada.

WHEN: Saturday, December 10, 2022 at 1:00pm ET and Sunday, December 11, 2022 at 3:00pm ET

WHERE: The March for Biodiversity and Human Rights will be held at the Statue du Mont-Royal in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The rally portion of the event will be live-streamed and links for this will be provided to interested parties. The Teach-In: “Fighting Canadian Fossil Fuel Infrastructures in the US and Canada” will be held at 3714 Park Ave, Montreal, Quebec H2X 2J1, Canada.

WHO: The March for Biodiversity and Human Rights is hosted by the Quebec Civil Society Collective for COP15, which regroups 67+ organizations mobilizing for biodiversity protection in the context of COP15, along with local and international allies.
