Sierra Club Michigan is seeking a Volunteer Treasurer

Are you a passionate individual who wants to make a difference? Do you have strong knowledge of and experience managing finances? Sierra Club Michigan is looking for a dedicated volunteer to join our team as treasurer.

The treasurer will play a key role in ensuring the financial health of the Chapter. This role is an excellent opportunity for someone with financial experience who wants to give back to the community in a meaningful way.

What are we looking for?

  • Experience in financial management, bookkeeping or accounting.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • A commitment to the values, mission and goals of Sierra Club.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with the Executive Committee and chapter director.

What does a treasurer do?

  • Maintain bank accounts and track all related transactions in Quickbooks Online, with assistance from the administrative assistant, chapter director and bookkeeper. 
  • Create regular reports that demonstrate the Chapter’s financial position and report on them periodically to the Finance Committee and Executive Committee (at least quarterly).
  • Monitor budget and reserve levels and ensure adequate cash levels are maintained.
  • Implement proper internal controls.
  • Prepare timely reporting to the national Sierra Club, particularly at year-end.
