On June 14, President Trump plans to host a military parade honoring the 250th anniversary of the Army's founding as well as his birthday. This is his second attempt at a military parade after the Pentagon blocked his request for Veterans Day of 2018. Sierra Club is joining coalition partners 50501, Indivisible Michigan 7th District (IMI7), Ingham County Democratic Party (ICDP), Crowded Table, Rank MI Vote and others in protest at the Michigan State Capitol. The schedule of events on Saturday, June 14, is here:
- ICDP Tribute Rally to Ted Lawson: 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.
- 50501 MI Rally: 12 to 2 p.m.
- Sidewalk March: 2 to 3 p.m.
- No Kings Carnival: 3 to 6 p.m.
- Mutual aid drive: Entire duration of event
If Trump wants a birthday party, let's give him one to remember. Come join us at the Michigan State Capitol Building as we stand up for democracy and oppose the Trump Administration's attacks on the rights and livelihoods of Michiganders, Americans and vulnerable people around the world. We will protest, hear fiery speeches, have conversations with politicians, march in solidarity, and throw a carnival to highlight the absurdity of the military parade Trump has planned on his birthday.
Event planners intend to have:
- food trucks
- games
- street performers
- other activities in the theme of a carnival
Feel free to dress as creatively as you like.
There are plans to host a mutual aid drive throughout the event, accepting shelf-stable foods, hygiene supplies, sexual health supplies, gender-affirming items, first aid supplies and gently used clothing.
Be sure to invite your friends! Registering with the Sierra Club helps members and supporters find us at the event. Please remember to also register at the official coalition registration link provided by 50501 as well to get important updates from the event organizers. Check our resistance calendar for other “No Kings!” rallies and events across the state.
