Last month, the Veterans of Foreign Wars National Home ( VFWNH) in Eaton Rapids invited Sierra Club Michigan to join volunteers from CG Financial and Kapknick Insurance Group for a day of service. We enjoyed coffee and donuts while learning about this inspiring organization. The VFW National Home is the only organization in the world that provides up to four years of housing and resources to entire veteran families, helping them resettle and offering comprehensive, long-term solutions.
Following the tour, we installed a brand-new swing set and safety mulch for the community as part of the VFWNH and Sierra Club’s Military Outdoors (SCMO) partner project. A huge shout out to Sierra Club member and volunteer Michele Whitaker, who responded to my call for volunteers like she was responding to The Bat Signal. It was a rewarding experience in an otherwise frustrating week in environmental conservation work.
The VFW National Home is hosting their 100th anniversary community celebration on Saturday, June 28, 2025 from 11:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. The festivities include a fundraiser golf tournament the Friday before, campus tours, carnival rides, car cruise in, selfies with superheroes, vintage baseball game, food trucks, Guitars for Vets performance, and more.
