Wayne Disposal, Inc., which operates Michigan’s only commercial (and one of the nation’s largest) hazardous waste landfill, has asked state environmental regulators for permission to add another 56-acre hazardous waste cell to its site. That means more out-of-state toxic hazardous waste, more truck traffic, and more long-term environmental risk — right in Wayne County.
Wayne Disposal is licensed to accept substances too dangerous for regular landfills and has a long history of environmental violations. These substances include some of the most toxic chemicals known, like dioxins, PCBs, cyanide, PFAS, arsenic and asbestos.
The community deserves a say.
The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) is holding a community town hall to hear from the community about the proposed expansion request. This is an opportunity to demand answers, raise concerns, and stop this dangerous expansion in its tracks.
📅 Town Hall Details

What’s at stake:
- Increased toxic waste storage near our homes and schools, and the Huron River Watershed
- Continued reliance on Michigan as a dumping ground for out-of-state hazardous waste
- Unaddressed concerns about safety, water contamination, and long-term health impacts
Wayne County has carried this burden for too long. Our communities deserve clean air, water, and soil — not decades more of toxic waste.
