The Next Generation of Environmental Leaders Is Hitting the Ground Running

Big changes don’t happen on their own. They happen when people show up, organize their communities and put in the work to build a better future. This election season, Michigan Sierra Club’s political interns are doing exactly that, and they’re making an incredible impact.

Every week, our interns are out in the field alongside Sierra Club staff, making phone calls, knocking on doors and talking directly with voters to support our endorsed candidates. They’re not sitting on the sidelines waiting for change. They’re helping make change happen.

From introducing voters to environmental champions to having conversations about the issues shaping Michigan’s future, our interns are gaining firsthand experience in what it takes to run an effective political campaign. Every call, every doorstep conversation and every voter connection helps build the grassroots power we need to elect leaders who will stand up for clean air, clean water, affordable clean energy and healthy communities.

And the work goes far beyond campaign experience. Our political internship program is an opportunity for emerging leaders to develop real-world organizing skills, learn how the political process works and see how people-powered movements can influence elections and public policy. They’re building the skills, relationships and experience that will help shape the future of environmental advocacy in Michigan.

The best part? They’re making a difference right now. In a consequential election year, our interns are helping mobilize voters, strengthen our campaigns and get environmental champions across the finish line. Their energy, commitment and willingness to roll up their sleeves are a powerful reminder that the future of the environmental movement is already here.

We’re incredibly proud of the work they’re doing and grateful to have them on the team. Building a stronger environmental movement means investing in the people who will carry it forward — and our political interns are proving that they’re ready to lead.

Want to help us elect environmental champions? Join our team in the field, make calls, knock on doors, donate to our political program to support our internship program and be part of the movement. Because when we organize together, we can build the Michigan we want to see. If you want to get more involved, please contact our Legislative and Political Director, Tim Minotas at tim.minotas@sierraclub.org.
