Changing organizational culture is hard work. Our Equity department team shows up every day to share their passion, their emotional labor and their commitment to self-transformation. Sometimes the work is really tough -- most of us on the team hold at least one marginalized identity, and fragility and toxicity tend to show up in the hard conversations that our staff are charged with holding. One of the lessons we’re learning on our journey is that equity, inclusion and justice work is labor-intensive. There’s no substitute for highly skilled, passionate people in this work.

That’s why I’m so pleased to announce that our team is growing. We’re currently hiring a Deputy Director of Equity, Inclusion and Justice to help build the capacity of our department and make our work more effective. Our deputy director will take the lead on supporting our chapters and groups across the country, helping to create a distributed network of equity advocates in every state and every community in which we work. This is a huge opportunity to foster social change among a community of three million members and supporters and help to build and contribute to a grassroots movement for collective liberation.

Our new deputy director will also have the privilege of managing our brilliant staff of equity advocates. We’re a close-knit team, but we’re also based out of offices across the country. With your support we’ll grow our connection even deeper and foster a spirit of collaboration and collective decision-making that can be a model for our whole organization. As the Equity department, one of our most important roles is to model ways of working together and supporting each other that are grounded in our equity values. As our deputy director, you could be part of creating a new model for how people working toward collective liberation in the non-profit context can practice just relations with each other while also being effective in achieving our goals.
