Washington, DC- The House has voted to go to conference on the disastrous tax scheme advanced by Senate Republicans.
Meanwhile, the Senate’s decision to include opening the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to drilling in this bill has caused backlash by some Republicans in the House.
In their haste to pass any sort of legislation this session, Senate Republican Leadership made a series of promises to Senators like Flake and Collins that they may very well break. The rushed process also resulted in serious tax policy errors that are only now being discovered, including, bizarrely, scrambling their core goal of slashing corporate taxes.
Both the House and Senate version of the tax scheme give corporate polluters and billionaires huge tax breaks, while undermining the long term viability of essential public health programs
In response, Sierra Club Legislative Director Melinda Pierce released the following statement:
“Both the House and Senate versions of this tax scam sell out the middle class, threaten pristine wild places like the Arctic and the Gwich'in people who call it home, and jeopardize funding for critical public health programs across the government. That’s why it's time for responsible members of both parties to declare that they will oppose this disastrous plan once and for all.”
