Washington, DC-- On Friday July 12th, 2019, Lights for Liberty vigils will bring thousands of people to locations worldwide as well as to detention centers across the country, into the streets and into their own front yards, to protest the inhumane conditions faced by migrants. For information on the events across the country and sponsors, see the Lights for Liberty page.

Ahead of the event, Sierra Club Executive Director Michael Brune released the following statement:

“We are at a critical moment: the horror we are seeing in these detention centers stresses the need for continued public pressure to call the Trump administration to reverse its course on this inhumane, anti-immigrant agenda. Sierra Club is committed to joining with borderlands and immigrant communities against environmental and social injustice. When we are united as one progressive community, we are strong. The Trump administration must stop its inhumane treatment of migrant families, and abandon its dangerous push for a border wall. The nation and the world are watching and demanding justice.”
