Hartford, C.T.--Governor Lamont’s Council on Climate Change released their final Phase 1 report on how the state can meet its climate goals of 45% carbon reductions by 2030.

The report fails to address the continued approval of fossil fuel infrastructure by the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) and other decision making bodies like the Connecticut Siting Council. Currently, DEEP is sitting on a final approval for a permit related to the Killingly gas facility.

The final report also ignored a working group recommendation to require DEEP and other agency decisions to adhere to the state’s greenhouse gas reduction obligations.

Samantha Dynowski, Sierra Club Connecticut Chapter State Director, provided the following quote on the report:

“Rather than address the most recognized contradiction in Connecticut’s climate policy--the continued siting and approval of new fossil fuel infrastructure including the Killingly gas facility -- Governor Lamont and his DEEP have ignored it. Climate leaders take action; they don’t build more fossil fuel power plants.”
