Sierra Club Endorses Maggie Hassan for U.S. Senate

Nation’s Largest Grassroots Conservation Organization Praises Hassan’s Strong Work Protecting the Environment and Public Health

Manchester, NH -- Today, the Sierra Club announced their endorsement of New Hampshire’s Maggie Hassan for U.S. Senate.

“The Sierra Club is proud to again endorse Senator Hassan for U.S. Senate,” said Sierra Club New Hampshire Chapter Political Chair Jim Allmendinger. “For decades as a state senator, then governor, and, for the past six years, our U.S. Senator, Hassan has been a strong leader safeguarding New Hampshire’s clean air and water, investing in clean energy and addressing climate injustice. Senator Hassan has consistently fought to protect the Granite State, and the Sierra Club looks forward to continuing our work with her.”

A longtime advocate for action on climate change, as governor, Hassan led the effort to make New Hampshire part of the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI). She also signed into law the Renewable Portfolio Standard, fully funded the Land and Community Heritage Investment Program, and signed the climate initiative Under2 Memo of Understanding, an ambitious climate agreement for state and local governments. As senator, Hassan has fought to protect New Hampshire's clean air and water, taken action on the harmful PFAS substances, and consistently supported investments in clean energy and clean infrastructure. This has included co-sponsoring the Clean Energy for America Act and being a strong supporter of President Biden’s plan to invest in climate, jobs, and justice.

The Sierra Club will be mobilizing its members and staff this election to support and elect endorsed candidates like Senator Maggie Hassan.
