WHITE PLAINS, NY - Today, New York State announced its commencement of the rule-making process to adopt the Advanced Clean Cars II program, which will help make more electric vehicles available for New Yorkers.

Sierra Club has been working with its partners in the Electrify NY coalition to push for the state to swiftly adopt this program by year’s end in order for New York to reap the climate and air quality benefits of the rule as quickly as possible.

In response to the announcement, Jessica Enzmann, Sierra Club Senior Organizing Representative based in New York, released the following statement:

“New York moving forward with the Advanced Clean Cars program is critical for the state to meet its climate commitments and improve air quality for communities. New York passed one of the country’s strongest climate laws, and we can’t tackle the climate crisis without addressing one of the top polluting sectors – transportation.

“We urge New York’s Department of Environmental Conservation to adopt this program swiftly. We will continue our work with our Electrify NY partners to make clean transportation – from cars to buses to trucks – non-polluting, affordable, and reliable. Other states should move swiftly to join New York in adopting this life-saving rule, which will improve air quality and slow the climate crisis.”
