Advisory: Sierra Club to Join Sustainable Investment Caucus for Press Conference Following House Financial Services Committee Hearing

Washington, D.C. — On Wednesday, July 12, at 1:30pm ET at the House Triangle, the Sierra Club’s Executive Director Ben Jealous will join the Congressional Sustainable Investment Caucus for a press conference following the House Financial Services Committee hearing entitled “Protecting Investor Interests: Examining Environmental and Social Policy in Financial Regulation”.

During the press conference, members of the Congressional Sustainable Investment Caucus and House Financial Services Committee, and representatives from advocacy groups including the Sierra Club, US SIF, and the AFL-CIO will underscore the importance of preserving the free-market principles of consumer choice and investor freedom. 

The press conference will be held following the first of six House Financial Services Committee hearings expected to focus on the GOP’s anti-capitalism attacks on ESG. The hearing begins at 10am ET in 2128 RHOB. See the full schedule here.

More information: Also on Wednesday, the Sierra Club will join a roundtable hosted by Rep. Waters at 4pm ET in 2220 RHOB. The roundtable will discuss the importance of empowering shareholders and stakeholders to better engage companies they invest in, the importance of the SEC’s climate risk disclosure rule, the need to advance other ESG disclosures, and the importance of protecting the independence of (and promoting competition among) the proxy advisors.
