Indianapolis, Ind – Two days after Donald Trump’s executive orders attempting to bail out the coal industry, Governor Bruan issued two similar executive orders that will increase utility bills and pollution for all Hoosiers. The implication of the new executive orders likely means the termination of the Indiana Priority Climate Action Plan, among other impacts.

Just this year, Braun’s utility regulators approved Duke’s rate case that locks in coal at Duke’s Edwardsport power plant, a choice that intervenors from the large industrial users of electricity to the Sierra Club opposed because burning coal at the plant loses customers money.

Braun’s new executive orders can be found here and here. Braun issued executive orders last month that target environmental protections and environmental justice.

Statement from Robyn Skuya-Boss, Hoosier Chapter Director for the Sierra Club:

“The only energy ‘emergency’ facing Indiana is the burning commitment by state and federal leaders to deepen our reliance on inefficient, expensive, aging coal-burning power plants. Restricting utility energy plans that would reduce energy waste, drive innovation, and save customers money while improving air and water quality breaks faith with future generations depending on us making better choices at this moment. Governor Braun is failing Hoosier families being impacted by the pollution burning coal generates."
