CARSON CITY, NEVADA — The Nevada Assembly voted 40-2 to pass Senate Bill 405. This comes after the Nevada Senate also unanimously approved the bill last month. The Sierra Club Toiyabe Chapter has been championing this bill with Senator Julie Pazina (SD 12) after working together on the measure in the interim with a broad spectrum of stakeholders. The bill is on Governor Lombardo’s desk awaiting his signature.

“This bill offers real solutions to real problems to ensure every Nevadan can get outside and see the beautiful landscapes that have inspired Nevadans for generations,” said Olivia Tanager, Chapter Director for the Sierra Club Toiyabe Chapter. “Everyone should be able to witness the azure blues of Lake Tahoe or the deep reds of Red Rock, not just those who can afford a car and gas to get there. It's a promise that Nevada’s great outdoors can be accessed by all of us. By connecting our communities to our trails, we’re expanding access, protecting our environment, and investing in a healthier, more inclusive future."

“I am thrilled to see the Transit to Trails bill take another step forward,” said Senator Julie Pazina. “This legislation will get young people out to visit Nevada’s parks and trails, ensuring  that all Nevadans have the chance to take advantage of the state’s natural beauty.”

“Our public lands belong to all Americans, and we all have the right to explore those green and natural spaces. Owning a car shouldn’t be a prerequisite for experiencing the physical and mental health benefits of time spent in nature. By passing this bill into law, Nevada can lead the way in breaking down the barriers that too many communities face when it comes to accessing our public lands," said Gerry Seavo James, Deputy Director of Sierra Club's Outdoors for All campaign.

The Toiyabe Chapter looks forward to continuing to fight for real transit solutions and to ensure everyone has access to outdoor recreation in Nevada.
