RALEIGH, NC – Today, the Sierra Club, the nation’s oldest and largest grassroots environmental organization, announced its endorsement of Roy Cooper for United States Senate in North Carolina, citing his outstanding record as Governor of North Carolina to strengthen the state’s clean energy economy and commitment as a Senator to help lower costs and deliver for working families.

“Governor Cooper proved that clean air, clean water, and a strong economy go hand-in-hand. He moved North Carolina forward by setting bold clean energy goals, tripling North Carolina's solar energy capacity, attracting billions in clean-energy investment, and creating thousands of jobs,” said Drew Ball, Chair of the North Carolina Sierra Club Political Committee. “From the mountains to the sea, he protected our natural lands and waterways, cut pollution, and advanced the transition to more affordable, reliable clean energy. His legacy proves that when we invest in a healthier environment, we also build a stronger future for every North Carolinian. That is exactly the kind of leadership we need and deserve in Washington, and why we're supporting Roy Cooper for US Senate.”

“When I was Governor, we worked hard to strengthen North Carolina’s clean energy economy, recruiting billions in investments and more than 20,000 good-paying jobs from around the world,” said Roy Cooper. “I’m grateful for the support of the Sierra Club and for their work to safeguard our wildlife and natural resources. North Carolinians deserve new leaders in Washington who will have their backs and I’m ready as a Senator to fight for lower costs and a stronger clean energy economy that creates good-paying jobs all across our state."

During Cooper’s two terms as Governor, North Carolina announced more than 20,000 good-paying clean energy jobs and over $24 billion in private investments from companies around the world. Governor Cooper worked with legislators and business leaders on both sides of the aisle to bolster the state’s clean energy economy, helping make North Carolina the top state in the country for business three out of the last four years.
